Rebecca R Vent is Running for Howard Circuit Court Judge with Experience that Matters

Kokomo, IN – February 20, 2026 – Rebecca R. Vent, an attorney with nearly 30 years of legal experience, announces her candidacy for Judge of the Howard County Circuit Court. Her extensive background in all aspects of family and criminal law has enabled her to represent thousands of families in Howard County throughout her career. Guided by faith, integrity, and experience Vent will bring a wealth of unapparelled experience to the types of cases venued exclusively in Howard Circuit Court.

A fourth-generation Howard County resident, Vent has practiced in all aspects of family law for 30 years, handling matters such as divorces, custody and child support modifications, paternity establishments, adoptions, and guardianships. Vent has more experience representing the best interests of children, advocating for families in abuse and neglect cases, and serving as a court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem for children than any other attorney in Howard County.

“As an adoptive parent and a step-parent in our beautifully blended family, I know that parenting comes with challenges,” commented Vent. “Not to mention, I am one of five children in my own family who survived the divorce of our parents and the difficult transitions that occurred thereafter. I know firsthand, as well as through 30 years of representing Howard County families, how devastating a high-conflict divorce can be on children.” These experiences have shaped her belief that family encompasses so much more than biology.

Vent has experience on both sides of the criminal fence. She has served more than a decade with the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office in pursuing criminal convictions against individuals who committed crimes against women and children, including high-level felony sex crimes. While in the Prosecutor’s Office, Vent also served as the Title IV-D Attorney in establishing thousands of paternities and child support orders in Howard Circuit Court. Thereafter, she began serving as a Deputy Public Defender representing families whose children were removed from their custody due to addiction, abuse or neglect. Vent also has extensive experience in representing juveniles who have been charged with acts of delinquency or ongoing disobedience at home or at school. Vent’s experience, largely encompassed within Howard Circuit Court, gives her a broad understanding of both sides of criminal law.

Always with an eye toward public service, Vent has volunteered her time at the local domestic violence shelter and has served as a Board Member for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Community Howard Regional Hospital and its Foundation, and the Howard County Bar Association. Vent currently sits on the Board of The Gap Program, which offers housing and other services to recovering addicts, and will soon be joining the Board of the United Way. From the inception of her career, Vent has volunteered thousands of hours of free legal services to help those in need, but who cannot afford an attorney.
